WELCOME TO YOURNEW WILD APRICOTWEBSITE
May 4, 2022 - 12pm ET
Did you know that May 1-7 is National Youth Week? During this time, communities across Canada will celebrate youth engagement and highlight the active role that young people play in areas of civic engagement, recreation, arts, sports, and employment.
To recognize National Youth Week, ODEN will be hosting a Lunch and Learn event on Wednesday, May 4th from 12pm to 1pm for families and educators. In this session, ODEN will present the findings from the Youth Success Strategy for Developmental Services.
Employment is an important part of health and well being. Yet, for youth who have a disability, there are many barriers that prevent them from obtaining meaningful co-op and experiential learning work placements, summer employment or volunteering positions, all important experiences that help to obtain work after leaving high school. This can be changed by empowering family and educators to see the importance of early exposure to work, raising expectations, and seeing employment for young people as a possible life goal.
Join us as we provide specific examples that can implemented at home and school to raise expectations and create an environment where competitive employment is seen as a viable possibility for youth who have a disability.
